Folded steel souvenir matchbox holder. Presented by officers of 8th Battalion, A. I. F. to 'Pte. V. L. Harrison', 8th. Battalion. A. I. F.
It is assumed this is Private Victor Leslie Harrison, service #2594. He enlisted on 14 Jun 1915, while a 25-year-old railway hand from Fitzroy, Melbourne. He sailed from Melbourne on 15 September 1915, and arrived in Gallipoli in December; leaving again in early January. In March 1916 he was sent to France, and after two periods of service on the Western Front left for Australia on a hopsital ship in March 1919.
Physical Description
Folded steel holder embossed on one side with rising sun badge, and "From the officers Xmas 1918". On other side an enamelled colour patch of 8th battalion (red & white rectangle) is attached, and "8 th. Bn. A. I. F. Nulli Secundus".
