Summary

History

The Brough Superior was built between 1920 and 1940 by George Brough at his works in Haydn Road, Nottingham in the United Kingdom. This motorcycle established itself as one of the best engineered machines of its time and retains that reputation among collectors to this day. The SS100 model had a 998 c.c V-twin engine built by either JAP or Matchless. It remained in production with successive improvements from 1924 to 1940 with about 400 examples produced. It is perhaps best known as the type of machine used by T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia). Lawrence died following an accident near his cottage in Dorset while riding an SS100 in 1935.
