Summary

Tell-tale or watchman's clock, made by Joseph Fairer, London, circa 1870.

The watchman pulled a string passing outside the case. This pressed the pins around the dial at the stated time. The supervisor could then see the following morning whether the watchman had maintained the required rounds.
