Summary

Model of a stamp battery with steam engine and amalgamator made by Albert A. Hopkins whilst serving his apprenticeship in the Union Foundry, Ballarat. The model was displayed at the Melbourne International Exhibition in 1880 by J. R. Hopkins in class 81 Apparatus and Processes of the Art of Mining and Metallurgy.

Physical Description

Metal steam engine, painted green on top of wooden section painted brown, connected to a piston driving a wheel which winds the gears to drive the crushing mechanism of the model. There are feed trays at the back and trays at the front to catch the crushed material. A mill with a lead ball in the front is also powered by the battery, connected by a leather strap. All attached to a square board.
