Summary

Automaton Monkey (or chimpanzee) which contains a musical box that plays a tune. It is wound using a key near the base of the guitar, just above the key is a button to start and stop the music. While the music is playing the monkey moves its right arm up and down as though strumming the guitar. At the same time its head moves up and down and from side to side while the mouth and eyes open and close. The 19th century produced a wealth of mechanical dolls and toys known as automata. Many were made in small studios in Paris from 1848-1915 and brought to life both exotic and everyday events of the times.
