Gents pocket watch, Edward Prior, London, no 41657, circa 1814. Three silver outer cases, with pearl on stem and long silver plaited chain. Made in London for the Turkish market, with Turkish numerals.
Edward Prior was a London watchmaker of high repute, specialising in watches for Türkiye and the Ottoman Empire. He worked between 1800 and 1868.
Physical Description
Three outer cases. First case is plain silver with engraved foliage in form of 8 pointed star. Second case is silver and tortoise shell. Third case is silver with London hallmark for 1814. Silver inner case has 1816 London hallmark. Long stem terminates in a pearl. Long silver plaited chain is attached. White enamel dial has two circles of Turkish numerals. Inner ring for hours 1 to 12, outer for minutes 5 to 60. Key wound spring; verge escapement. Fusee and chain.
