Presentation watch, inscribed on inner case: 'Presented to W. H. Soul Esq on the eve of his departure for England by a few of his business friends as a small token of their esteem, Sydney, March 1899'.
In 1872 Washington Handley Soul and his father Caleb Soul opened a drug store and dispensary in Pitt Street, Sydney. The business flourished, and in 1903 amalgamated with Pattinson & Co. to become a public company, Washington H. Soul, Pattinson & Co. Soul retired from active business after 1903.
Physical Description
Gold hunter case is marked 18 carat. London hallmark for 1887 (uncrowned leopard, capital m). White dial has roman numerals and seconds dial at 9. Stem and button wound spring. Nielsen motion work and balance regulator.
