Summary
This 1:32 scale model of an FB.VI Mosquito was commissioned by the Museum and built by Harold P. Wood who made most of the Museum's aircraft models prior to 1950. It carries no serial number and is finished in an all-silver scheme adopted for RAAF Mosquito aircraft in Australia after CSIR tests had shown that camouflaged Mosquitoes absorbed heat which accelerated deterioration of glued wooden joints. Mosquitoes with casein glued joints were usually not sent to tropical areas as this glue was derived from cow's milk and proved attractive to insects as well as being subject to mould growth. Urea formaldehyde 'Beetle' glue was used as a substitute for casein.
