The steel balance has curved ends through which the chains are looped. In the centre of the balance is a decorative spike, and hanging attachment. There are four standard 'Penny weights' ranging in weight from 3 to 4,5 & 6. The brass weights have an image of a crown on one side and the weight on the other. The base of the box is lined with blue felt and the lid is secured with a hook and eye attachment.
