Intermediate cable was inserted between the less-protected and lighter deep-sea cable and the more heavily protected shore-end cable.
Physical Description
The central conductor is a strand of 7 copper wires. It is insulated with gutta percha or vulcanized rubber and protected by a wrapping of brass tape. The brass is covered with more insulation and wrapped with armouring wires. The armouring wires are covered by an outer protective coating.
