Summary
Device used to transmit signals in an electric telegraph system. It converted a pattern of perforations on a continuous paper tape into pulses of electrical current representing letters and numbers according to a defined code. These pulses could then be transmitted over the telegraph line to the receiving station.

Circular brass base carrying smaller offset circular brass case with glass top which contains tape-reading mechanism.
