Summary

Double diode triode designed by AWV to provide about twice the gain available from the available RCA types of the day (6G8G and 6B8G). Introduced in 1949 it remained popular with manufacturers until about 1954 when most manufacturers had switched to miniature types.
Probably introduced to provide competition for Philips's EBF32 which outperformed anything that AWV had to offer in 1949. The 6AR7GT had nearly 40% more gain than the EBF32, hence its popularity.
Manufacturer: Amalgamated Wireless Valve Co., Sydney NSW.
