Summary

This model also known as the 'Radiola Forty-Five'. This was a mains powered TRF (tuned radio frequency) receiver, using screen-grid (tetrode) valves as RF amplifiers and the detector. Screen grid valves were used by AWA for the first time in 1930. It had two stages of RF amplification using 24A valves; another 24A was used as an anode-bend detector followed by a type 45 as an output valve. The rectifier was an 80.
(The later designations for the valves are used here but at the time the set was made they would have been called: 224A, 245 and 280 by AWA)
This radio was advertised in November 1930 for £42-10-0. Ford cars advertised on the same page sold for prices between £218 and £315.
