Summary

Forceps for holding a patient's tongue during oral and throat surgical procedures, manufactured circa 1950.

Ring handle with central box jointed hinge creating scissor-like action. These forceps have a serrated, fenestrated (ring-shaped) tip configuration and a solid interlocking ratchet to hold them closed. The ratchet locking mechanism allows the forceps to be secured in a closed position enabling other procedures to be undertaken concurrently.

Previously owned by Dr Leopold Polack who operated a dental practice in Hawthorn, Victoria from the1950s-1970s.

Physical Description

Straight metal forceps with two ring grip handles and locking mechanism. Tips of each component have a serrated ring. The serration provides a firm grip when clamp closed.
