Summary
The Davy's miners safety lamp was invented by Sir Humphry Davy in 1815.
It is the oldest form of its kind with a double cylinder of thin wire gauge or mesh that encloses a central wick. The lamp was principally employed in the coal mines of England, France, Belgium & Germany to prevent explosions in mines from ignition of "fire-damp".

Wire mesh cylindrical lamp with brass top and base. 6400 apertures per square inch.
