Summary
Brass oval locomotive builders plate No. 14, manufactured by the Melbourne Locomotive & Engineering Works, South Melbourne, 1892.
Manufacturer's identification plate originally fitted to a Victorian Railways 'E' class 0-6-2 tank locomotive No. 498.
The works only constructed twenty locomotives. Their plates were unusual in that a small replica locomotive was the centre piece of each plate (missing in this example).
