The power unit was supplied by Walker Brothers (Wigan) Ltd, Wigan, England, and the body by Martin & King Pty Ltd, Victoria. The 12 rail cars were assembled at the Newport Railway Workshops, Victoria Railways, 1948-49.
This set of plates from Rail Car No 1 are from the first rail car to enter service on the Victorian Railways.
