Summary
C.B. Kellow Cup cycling trophy awarded to Hubert Opperman, for the Dunlop Grand Prix of 1927. The event was held in four stages from the 14-19 November, 1927, covering 690 miles (1110 km) in total.
The Dunlop Grand Prix was cited as the biggest race in the British Empire of its time, and actually yealded more prize money than the Tour de France. Opperman set a new record with a finishing time of 40 hours 41 minutes and 34 seconds. He arrived to a crowd of 20,000 people at the Melbourne Show Grounds - taking only 8 hours from Warrnambool.
The C.B Kellow Cup was presented by Sir Stephen Morell, Lord Mayor of Melbourne. Opperman received £250 in prize money (and £400 in total from the entire Grand Prix). Mr C.B. Kellow was so pleased with the results of the race that he assured he would provide a similar prize for the same race the following year in 1928.
