The brig 'Wild Wave' (179 tons) was built at Guernsey in the Channel Islands in about 1854 and originally named 'China'. It was sailed to Sydney, Australia under the command of Henry Maughan in 1859 with a mixed British/Danish/Norwegian/Swedish crew. It was then used in the Australian coastal trade. It was lost on the Montebello Reef off Western Australia in November 1873 while carrying a cargo of sandalwood and mining equipment. All 27 passengers and 15 crew were saved. This 1:120 model was purchased by the Museum in 1930.
