The UY227 was developed by RCA and released in 1927. This valve was the first indirectly heated valve to be produced in large numbers in the USA and it made AC mains radio economically possible. This valve was copied by numerous manufacturers large and small and usually given a type number that included 27 as the last two digits. Gold Seal were such a manufacturer.
