Summary
Twin triode designed to be used as a zero bias class-B output amplifier.
This valve was introduced in about 1935 but the base markings indicate that this example was produced during World War II (1939-1945).
A class-B power amplifier is much more efficient than a class-A amplifier but the need for significant drive power and the fact that the supply current varies widely with the signal level means that class-B was only used in valve amplifiers when either maximum power was needed or power consumption needed to be minimised.
