Summary

The introduction of the '27 in 1927 made economical mains powered radios possible. Soon everyone was replacing their old battery sets with 'Light Socket Radios'.
Though not the first indirectly heated triode, the UY227 was the first to be marketed by RCA and to be copied by numerous manufacturers who usually used a variation of the RCA type number but still ending in 27 as in this case where Arcturus called their version Type 127. It had a 2.5 Volt indirectly heated cathode and was used as a A. F. amplifier and biased detector.
