The White Star liner 'Titanic' struck an iceberg on her maiden voyage from England to New York and sank with a loss of 1,490 lives. 711 survivors were rescued by the Carpathia and they had medals struck in gold (14), silver (110) and bronze (180) to present to its crew, according to rank.

Physical Description

An ornately shaped bronze medal (35 mm. wide) with red ribbon. The obverse features the scene of the Carpathia among icebergs with a ladder let down towards which survivers of the Titanic row in small boats; above the scene is a head of Neptune whose beard flows into two dolphins which curve around below to a crossed fouled anchor and broken spar.
