Summary
This medal was probably mass-produced to celebrate the arrival of the new Archbishop of Melbourne, Thomas Joseph Carr in 1887.
The medal is inscribed in Gaelic 'one hundred thousand welcomes'. Carr was Bishop of Galway, Ireland, and migrated to Victoria to assume his post. He served as Archbishop of Melbourne 1886-1917.

On top arm of cross, 'CEADE / MILLE / FAILTHE'. Across cross arms, 'TO / THE / ARCHBISHOP OF MELBOURNE'. On bottom of cross, '1887'.
