The crown was current at 5 shillings. The initial mark '1' is considered to be a date ie. 1601, but these dies are now believed to have remained in use early in 1602 before the '2' mark was introduced for that year.
Obverse Description
Crowned bust of the Queen facing left wearing a richly decorated dress and ruff and holding a sceptre in her right hand and orb; around, (Mm. 1) + ELIZABETH D G ANG FRA ET HIBER REGINA (translation: El;izabeth by the Grace of God Queen of England France and Ireland)
Reverse Description
Garnished Royal shield quartered with the arms of England and France on a cross fourchee, the cross pierces a circle of beads and divides the legend; around, (Mm. 1) POSVI DEVM ADIVTOREM MEVM (translation: I have made God my helper)
