The fiftieth anniversary of the ascension of Queen Victoria was celebrated with enthusiasm throughout the Empire. This gilt medal was one of many issued by local organistions to commemorate the occasion.
Obverse Description
Medal has hole at top, centre. Crowned and veiled head of Queen Victoria facing left; text around, 'IN COMMEMORATION OF CHILDREN CARNIVAL IN HONOUR OF THE', text in centre 'QUEEN'S / JUBILEE / 1887'. In small letters on neck artist's initials: 'E.A.A.'.
Reverse Description
At centre 'PRESENTED BY / G.C. CLAUSCEN / MAYOR OF FITZROY '.
