Napoleon arrived in Rochefort on July 3rd 1815 and stayed until 8th July when he tried to embark on a small boat for the Isle of Aix. However, the winds proved too strong so Napoleon boarded the Saale, one of the French ships being blockaded by the Royal Navy. On 15 July he surrendered to the British on one of the blockading ships, the Bellerophon.
Physical Description
Round bronze medal. Obverse depicts Warrior standing on vessel with arms folded, his helmet and sword hung on the stern; in field right, a trident; inscription around. Reverse bears a legend in five lines:
