A pattern for the coin proposed to be issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Federation, 1901 - 195. It was struck in London where the dies were prepared and struck with the standard fine British milling on a cupro-nickel blank.
Physical Description
A cupro-nickel pattern coin (28 mm diameter with fine milled edge) featuring a bare head of George VI facing left; around, GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX FIDEI DEF. ; below bust in small lettering the artist's initials H.P. The reverse features a scepter and sword crossing below a crown and above the Federation Star with the stars of the Southern Cross around; curved above AUSTRALIA; curved below (and split into two parts by a star), FLORIN; across the centre of the design lined up with the arms of the Southern Cross, to left 1901and to right 1951.
