Significance
'According to Philip Gosse in his book St. Helena 1502-1938, 'L147 worth of halfpenny tokens (70,560) were issued and were in circulation for many years before they came to official notice, when orders were issued for there withdrawal' Vice p. 232 who goes on to suggest those orders were probably in 1834 when the Crown took over from the East India Company.
