Obverse Description

Group of floating angels supporting a stretcher carrying the unknown soldier. Behind is the winged figure of Victory holding laurel branches. The Arc de Triomphe is visible in the background. Inscription below angels reads: 'GLOIRE AU SOLDAT INCONNU' (Glory to the Unknown Soldier).

Reverse Description

Tomb of the unknown soldier. An engraved stone slab reads: 'ICI REPOSE UN SOLDAT FRANCAIS MORT POUR LA PATRIE 1914-1918' (Here lies a French Soldier who Died for the Homeland). At the head of the tomb rests a laurel wreath and Croix de Guerre medal. Flowers and palm leaves frame the wreath and slab.
