Summary
Medal designed by Anie Mouroux and minted in France in 1916, during World War I. It depicts Charles de Foucauld (1858-1916) and a graveyard labelled 'Beni-Abbes' (located in Algeria).
Charles Eugène de Foucauld was killed on 1 December 1916 at a fort he built for the protection of the Tuareg people. He was beatified in 2005.
