The last of the hammered coinage and the first of the specifically struck coins for the Maundy ceremony held on Holy Thursday. From 1670 the Maundy coins were dated. This coin has been holed to be worn.

Crowned and draped bust of Charles II, facing left; in field behind head the denomination, III around, CAROLVS . II . D . G . M . B . F. & H REX. Holed in field left of crown.
Reverse Description
Square topped shield quartered with the arms of England and France combined in 1st and 4th quarters, Scotland and Ireland, on a cross fleury; around, (mm. crown) CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO (translation: I reign under the auspices of Christ)
