Initially buried on St. Helena, the island where he died in exile in 1821, Napoleon's body was exhumed and brought back to France by King Louis-Philippe I in 1940. On 15 December 1840, Napoleon was given a state funeral and buried in the crypt of Saint-Louis des Invalides in Paris.
Physical Description
Round bronze medal. Obverse depicts laureate head of Napoleon facing left, inscription around and below. Reverse depicts at centre, an urn bearing the letter N, within a laurel wreath. Inscription around, artist's initials below urn.
