Significance

The ships on this coin are sometimes referred to as the Deliverance and the Patience which were built on Bermuda in 1610 by Admiral Sir George Somers from ships wrecked in a storm and sailed on a rescue mission to Virginia. but this does not seem correct, the lower craft is clearly a modern Bermuda fitted dinghy. This coin is a Royal Mint proof of Record but seems to be struck in copper nickel rather than the sterling silver of the standard issue.
