Significance

These coins were struck in the name of Shah Alam II. Although the dies bore a Regnal year it has failed to be struck onto this coin. The coins of the Jaipur mint always have the mint name prefix Sawai, this being a title of the mint's founder Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II (19th Raja of Amber and 1st Maharaja of Jaipur). Sawai means 'one and a quarter' and thus 'better than ordinary' or 'raised above other princes' (Wright, Coins in the Indian Museum, Calcutta p.lii)
