Before going into production for the 1988 commemorative holey dollar and Dump set, the Perth Mint prepared a mock-up of the proposed dollar and a plain silver piece to represent the proposed dump to test the market in Eastern Australia. This coin was taken to all major dealers in modern issues from Brisbane to Melbourne before being shown to John Sharples at Museum Victoria, it got no further.
