Significance
The date on this coins is given according to the Vikram (or Bikram) Samvat calander which is about 56 years 8 1/2 months ahead of the Christian era. The employment of the scimitar on Baroda coinage is a normal dynastic symbol. However, the cow's hoof as a pictorial design is new. The dynastic name Gaekwad is derived from their humble origins and means 'cow herd', perhaps it relates to this.
