Other Details: A prize medal prepared for the 1937 Sydney Show planned to celebrate the coronation of Edward VIII in May 1937. The coronation never took place as Edward abdicated in order to marry Mrs Wallis Simpson in December 1936. The medals were never distributed.

Physical Description

An unissued and unfinished bronze prize medal (54 mm diameter) featuring a head of Edward VIII, bare facing right together with plaque on which details of his name and date of birth were to be engraved (see NU20304). The reverse features a standard rural image with animals, fruits and grains a tractor and the rising sun together with a plaque on which a winners name would have been engraved.

Head of Edward VIII bare, facing right; around above, HIS MAJESTY KING EDWARD VIII. ; below, a scroll on which details of the King's name and date of birth were to be engraved (see NU20304) in small letters below truncation, STOKES MELB. on truncation the artist's initials, P.M.

Rural image with animals, fruits and grains, a tractor and the rising sun together with a plaque on which a winners name would have been engraved
