Summary

Hexagonal, electric lamp with a cast-iron metal frame from the Royal Exhibition Building. It is painted black and features textured clear glass pane inserts. It was probably removed during the building's restoration in the late 1980s - early 1990s.

Physical Description

Hexagonal, electric lamp with a cast-iron metal frame that tapers slightly near the base of the body. It has a painted black frame and textured clear glass pane inserts. The top of the lamp has a panelled raised section with scalloped edging. The lamp parts are connected via black screws. Six vertical metal tongues divide each pane and extend beyond the body of the lamp at both ends. The base is an ornate moulded section that has a short central arm to support the lamp body. It is supported by six partially concealed metal arms. Three of the six glass insert panes are missing, exposing the interior which features a black plastic light fitting and a spike that extends downwards from the top. The spike appears to have been fitted in the reverse so could possibly be a point that extends up from the top of the lamp. Sections of the black paint have scratched off exposing the silver-coloured metal beneath.
