Six coin set of $2, $1, 50 cent, 20 cent, 10 cent and 5 cent housed in a sealed clear plastic container which is mounted in a blue foulder issued to commemorate the bicentenary of the discovery of Bass Strait by George Bass and Matthew Flinders in 1798.

Physical Description

An six coin set of $2, $1, 50 cent, 20 cent, 10 cent and 5 cent housed in an ultrasonically sealed clear styrene plastic container which is mounted in a blue foulder. The reverse types are standard for each denomination except the fifty cent which features portraits of George Bass and Matthew Flinders over a map depicting their discovery route of Bass Strait. All coins are struck with mirror fields and matt relief. The set is stored in a mint issue cardboard box with a printed pamphlet all of which should be retained.

Obverse Description

All coins bear a head of Elizabeth II crowned and wearing pearl ear-ring and necklace facing right; around, ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 1998; incuse on neck truncation the artist's initials RDM (Raphael Maklouf)

Reverse Description

Standard types for each denomination except the fifty cent which features portraits of George Bass and Matthew Flinders over a map depicting their discovery route of Bass Strait with the legend: GEORGE BASS MATTHEW FLINDERS DISCOVERY OF BASS STRAIT 1798 - 1998
