Summary

This hand fed printing press was manufactured by W. J. Connell & Co., London, but the date of manufacture is unknown. This printing press has a vertical bed.

Physical Description

Metal standing mechanism with movable bed, large flywheel and electric motor.

Significance

The Vertical Platen changed the concept of printing platens. The bed moved up and down vertically whilst the paper was hand fed onto a cylinder. In this machine the ink disc is on top and moves up and down with the bed. The lack of information so found on this press suggests this is a rare survivor.
