Copper one Penny Surcharged Token, minted by Thomas Stokes in Melbourne. Issued by Hugh Peck, an Estate Agent & Money Lender in Melbourne, circa 1862. Surcharged T.R. and ER.
Hugh Peck arrived in Victoria in 1852 and established a wholesale hay and corn store in Fitzroy. In 1853 opened a business as 'speculator, auctioneer, and house and land agent' in city. In 1859 he was listed as a Provision Merchant in Collingwood, then as a 'House and estate agent' in 1861. He issued his tokens in 1862.

Physical Description
A round a copper token (34 mm diameter) giving the name address and business of the issuer: Hugh Peck, 67 Little Collins Street East, Melbourne, Estate Agent, money lender, Hotel Broker and valuer, rents and debts collector, processes served, levies for rents. This token has been surcharged twice : T. R and ER and has been cleaned and marked with the number 211 in ink.
