Summary
Hand made marionette depicting a group of penguins known as the penguin ballet. They were manufactured and operated in Melbourne by Alex and Murray Smith, who performed as part of Le Forgeron Marionettes from 1930 until 1956.
Physical Description
Marionette group conisting of three penguins, which storage has left a little out of shape. They are sown together at the wing and are suspended from two pieces of wood which are connected with a piece of rope. They are made of soft fabric in black and white with orange feet and beaks. Their eyes are plastic. The fabric is a little worn and discoloured. They have wire in their feet and wings, but the torso appears to be totally padded. They are slightly different sizes.
