Description of Content
'Drilling for Oil' display, at the Institute of Applied Science, circa 1960s. In the centre on a small stand is a quad-cone rotary drill bit mounted on a small plinth just above floor level. Above at three interpretive panels on a hinged stand, with close-up photos of the drilling process, drill crew and drilling equipment on the lefthand panel; a diagram of a drilling rig or derrick and cross-sections of subterranean bore holes on the centre panel; and a large photograph of a drilling derrick on the righthand panel.
