Summary
Silver Denarius issued by the Emperor Antoninus Pius in 139 AD, Ancient Roman Empire. Minted by Rome. When the future emperor was adopted by Hadrian in 138 AD he took the name T. Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus, the names on the obverse of this coin. On 1 Jan 139 he became Consul for the second time (COS II at the end of the reverse legend on this coin). Later in 139 he took the title Pater Patria and the letters P P were added at the end of the reverse legend. This coin was therefore struck in 139 AD before he became Pater Patria. This coin was part of the first issue of Antoninus Pius.
