Significance
Charles V. Brooke, depicted on the obverse of this coin, became Rajah of Sarawak in 1917. Japanese occupation of the area in World War II caused so much damage to the economy that he ceded it to Britain in 1946. Sarawak became part of the Federation of Malaysia in 1963.
