Summary

Number 7 in a series of twelve 19th century lantern slides depicting the story of Christiana and her family's pilgrimage, the second part of John Bunyon's 1678 allegorical narrative 'Pilgrim's Progress'.

This lantern slide is part of the Francis Collection of pre-cinematic apparatus and ephemera, acquired by the Australian and Victorian Governments in 1975. David Francis was the curator of the National Film and Sound Archive of the British Film Institute as well as being a co-founder of the Museum of the Moving Image in London, which was operational between 1988 and 1999.

Description of Content

Hand coloured illustration of Christiana and a group of fellow travellers being received by a gentleman. The travellers are carrying long walking sticks. Great-Heart is wearing a helmet and holding a shield. The gentleman receiving them is dressed in red pantaloons, green jackets and blue hose.
