One of 35 black and white Lantern Slides depicting images of places and people taken in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district in Bavaria, Germany, circa 1920s. The Lantern Slide depicts a small hotel or pension most likely in the village of either of Garmisch or Partenkirchen.

In 1935 the mountain towns of Garmisch and Partenkirchen were forced to combine in anticipation of the 1936 Winter Olympic Games. Today the joint town is the administrative centre of the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the two areas within the town still retain quite separate identities.

Description of Content

Image of a small hotel or pension most likely in the villages of Garmisch or Partenkirchen. The building is three stories and painted white. There is a turret on the right hand side, a balcony on the second level with an intricately carved railing, and a cross craved into the building on the top level between two windows.

Standard format (3¼ x 3¼ inch square) lantern slide, comprising black & white photograph printed on glass with black paper edging under a protective glass cover plate.
