Partenkirchen is a mountain resort town in Bavaria, southern Germany. In 1935 it was forced to combine with the neighbouring town of Garmisch to the west in anticipation of the 1936 Winter Olympic games. Today the joint town is the administrative centre of the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the two areas within the town still retain quite separate identities.
