This Lantern Slide depicts a gorge in winter. It is probable the place depicted is Partnach Gorge, which is in Reintal valley near the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The gorge was designated a natural monument in 1912 and has been a popular tourist destination since that time in both summer and winter.

Gorge with river running through the centre. There are icicles hanging off rock on the right hand side of the gorge and a railing on the left.
